Articles By: Vicki Lathom

STAFF WRITER Vicki Lathom has spent forty years as a writer and boater and prefers “funky chic” places. Home base is Annapolis, Maryland, hub of the Chesapeake Bay boating scene, where she and partner Barry Miller cruise Balboita, a 36 ft. Albin trawler. When not around Chesapeake, Vicki heads someplace with a water view, which has included the British Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, St. Martin, the Greek Islands, Turkey, and the Maine and Mexican-Caribbean coasts. Funky chic has included several visits to the Tuscany artist colony of Cortona. In the winter the family’s boat dog (always a Sheltie) accompanies them down the Intracoastal Waterway to southern Florida or the Bahamas.

By staff writer Vicki Lathom. Photos Copyright © Vicki Lathom. “This is a place the Unabomber would like.” What the woman sitting next to me at Pete’s Pub meant was that the anarchist would feel at home in a place seemingly freer of rules than the world outside, in a simpler, nonconformist little...

A Cruiser’s Christmas

A Cruiser’s Christmas
By staff writer Vicki Lathom. Photos Copyright © Vicki Lathom. TEMPERATURES IN THE mid-70s, a tropical breeze and palm trees seem to be an unlikely combination to celebrate a traditional Christmas. But it works for cruisers hanging out in the Bahamas for the winter at Abaco Boat Harbour. Around December,...

Review: Chico the Boat Dog Tests Critter’s Inflatable Life Jacket
Review by guest writer Vicki Lathom. Photos & video Copyright © Vicki Lathom. WHO WOULD HAVE thought that my article on Chico the Boat Dog would take on a life of its own?
